About the Authors

Margret and H.A. Rey were a husband-and-wife team who created the beloved Curious George character. Margret was born in Germany in 1906, and H.A. was born in Poland in 1898. The couple met in Paris in 1930 and married two years later. They fled to the United States in 1940 to escape the Nazis, and they settled in New York City. They began writing and illustrating children's books in 1941, and their first Curious George book was published in 1941.

The Reys wrote and illustrated a total of seven Curious George books before H.A.'s death in 1977. Margret continued to write and illustrate Curious George books on her own until her death in 1996. The Curious George books have been translated into more than 60 languages and have sold more than 70 million copies worldwide.
