How a Travel Writer Learned to Love Cruises (and Other Lies from a Sinking Ship)
I've been a travel writer for over 15 years, and in that time I've been on dozens of cruises. I've sailed to the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, Alaska, and the Galapagos Islands. I've been on small ships and large ships, luxury ships and budget ships. And I've learned a lot about cruising along the way.
One of the things I've learned is that there are a lot of misconceptions about cruises. People think they're expensive, they're boring, and they're only for old people. But that's not true. Cruises can be affordable, they can be fun, and they're for people of all ages.
In this article, I'm going to share some of the things I've learned about cruising over the years. I'm going to tell you why I love cruises, and I'm going to give you some tips for planning your own cruise.

There are a lot of reasons why I love cruises. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Cruises are all-inclusive. Once you're on the ship, you don't have to worry about paying for anything extra. Your meals, your drinks, and your entertainment are all included in the price of your cruise. This makes it easy to budget for your trip, and it gives you the freedom to relax and enjoy yourself.
- Cruises are convenient. When you go on a cruise, you don't have to worry about packing and unpacking your bags every day. You just get on the ship once, and then you're all set. This makes it a great option for people who don't like to travel with a lot of luggage.
- Cruises are a great way to see the world. Cruises offer a unique way to see the world. You can visit multiple destinations in a short amount of time, and you don't have to worry about planning your itinerary. The cruise line will take care of all the details for you.
- Cruises are fun! Cruises are a great way to have fun and relax. There are plenty of activities to keep you busy, from swimming and sunbathing to shopping and gambling. And if you're looking for a more active vacation, you can always book a shore excursion.
If you're thinking about planning a cruise, here are a few tips to help you get started:
- Choose the right cruise line. There are many different cruise lines out there, so it's important to choose one that's right for you. Consider your budget, your interests, and the type of experience you're looking for.
- Choose the right ship. Once you've chosen a cruise line, you need to choose the right ship. There are ships of all sizes and types, so it's important to find one that meets your needs. Consider the size of the ship, the amenities it offers, and the itinerary.
- Book your cruise in advance. Cruises can sell out, so it's important to book your cruise in advance. The earlier you book, the more likely you are to get the cabin you want and the best price.
- Pack light. You don't need to pack a lot of clothes for a cruise. The weather on most cruises is warm, so you can pack light and leave some room in your suitcase for souvenirs.
- Be prepared for seasickness. Seasickness is a common problem on cruises, so it's important to be prepared. Talk to your doctor about seasickness medication, and be sure to pack some over-the-counter remedies.
Cruises are a great way to see the world, relax, and have fun. If you're thinking about planning a cruise, I encourage you to do your research and find the right cruise for you. With so many options available, there's sure to be a cruise that's perfect for you.
